Breast reduction is a surgical procedure that removes fat and glandular tissue from the breast while tightening skin to produce smaller breasts that are more comfortable and in better proportion to the rest of the body. Large breasts may draw unwanted attention that can make a woman feel self-conscious and uncomfortable with her appearance. Women with large breasts who are unhappy with their appearance and/or have neck or back pain or other symptoms may benefit from a breast reduction.
If you have experienced any of these problems, Dr. Bhatt can surgically reduce the size of your breasts to not only ease the pressure on your upper back and shoulders, but also to provide you with a more proportionate figure.
In some cases, health insurance will cover breast reduction surgery. Check with your carrier for their guidelines and rules.
Breast Reduction Considerations
During your breast reduction consultation with Dr. Bhatt, you will learn more about your options for creating your ideal breast appearance. He will discuss your goals and expectations for surgery, as well as inform you of the details of your chosen procedure.
This discussion is important for you to achieve the results you desire. Every procedure is customized to each individual patient. There are several different types of incisions that may be used for this procedure, and Dr. Bhatt will determine the best type for you after evaluating your breasts.
Who is a good candidate for breast reduction?
Ideal candidates for breast reduction surgery are women who have uncomfortably large breasts leading to medical problems, low self-esteem, and/or physical or social discomfort. If you are pregnant or a new nursing mother, however, you should not have a breast reduction procedure until after you are no longer breastfeeding.
What happens during breast reduction?
The excess tissue is removed per the goals set by the patient and Dr. Bhatt, and the breasts are reshaped. The nipples and areolas are re-positioned to accommodate the new breast size.
